What is Universal EV Chargers?
Universal EV Chargers is a division of Universal Green Group, a green energy provider established in 2009. We provide end-to-end EV charging solutions — from hardware and installation to network management and 24/7 support. Our mission is to help electrify North America by building a critically needed EV charging infrastructure to support the rapid growth of electric vehicles across the United States.
What types of chargers does Universal EV offer?
We offer three main charger types:
- L2 Single Port Level 2 single-port charger — compact and ideal for residential or small commercial use (up to 11.2 kW).
- L2 Dual Port Level 2 dual-port charger — serves two vehicles simultaneously, great for hotels and multi-family properties (up to 11.2 kW per port).
- DC Fast DC Fast Charger — our fastest option, delivering up to 180 kW for rapid public charging.
Is my EV compatible with Universal EV Chargers?
Our chargers support all major EV brands including Tesla (with adapter), Ford, Chevrolet, BMW, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen, and many more. Level 2 chargers use the standard J1772 connector; DC Fast Chargers support CCS1. Tesla drivers can use a Tesla-to-CCS adapter available from Tesla or third-party retailers.
Do I need an account to use Universal EV Chargers?
We recommend creating a free account via the Universal EV mobile app to start sessions, track history, and manage payments. However, many DC fast chargers also support credit/debit card tap-to-pay for guest users who prefer not to register.
Where can I find charging stations near me?
Use the Find a Charger page or the Universal EV mobile app for a real-time map of available chargers. We continue to add new locations nationwide.
Charging
How to start, stop, and manage your sessions.
How do I start a charging session?
You have three options:
- Universal EV App: Open the app, find the station, tap "Start Session," and plug in.
- Tap-to-Pay: On supported DC Fast Chargers, tap a contactless credit or debit card on the terminal.
How long does it take to charge my EV?
Charge times depend on the charger type and your battery capacity:
- L2 (11.2 kW) Adds ~60 miles of range per hour. A full charge from near-empty typically takes 6–10 hours.
- DC Fast Most EVs go from 20% to 80% in 20–45 minutes, depending on your vehicle's charge rate acceptance.
Which EVs are compatible with DC Fast Chargers?
Our DC Fast Chargers support CCS1 — the standard used by most North American EVs including Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt, Hyundai Ioniq, Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and more. Tesla drivers can use a CCS adapter (available from Tesla) to access our fast chargers.
How do I stop a charging session?
To stop your session:
- Tap "Stop Session" in the Universal EV app.
- Press the Stop button on the charger screen.
- Unplug your vehicle — the session ends automatically and a receipt is sent via the app or email.
What happens if I leave my car after it's fully charged?
Universal EV Chargers does not currently charge an idle fee. However, we kindly ask that you move your vehicle promptly once fully charged as a courtesy to other EV drivers. You'll receive a push notification via the app when your session is complete.
Will frequent charging damage my battery?
No. Modern EVs use sophisticated Battery Management Systems (BMS) to protect battery health. For best long-term results:
- Keep your battery between 20% and 80% for daily use.
- Use DC Fast Charging for convenience on trips, but avoid relying on it exclusively for every charge long-term.
- Charging to 100% occasionally (e.g., before a road trip) is perfectly fine.
What is the difference between kW and kWh?
- kW – kilowatt The speed of charging — how fast power is delivered. Our L2 chargers deliver up to 11.2 kW; DC Fast Chargers up to 180 kW.
- kWh – kilowatt-hour The amount of energy delivered — like the gallons pumped at a gas station. Sessions are billed per kWh consumed.
Can I charge my EV in rain or bad weather?
Yes. EV charging is safe in rain, snow, and wet conditions. All Universal EV chargers are weather-rated for outdoor use, and connectors use sealed, insulated contacts. If you notice physical damage to a charger, do not use it and contact our support team immediately.
Pricing & Billing
Understand costs, payments, and receipts.
How much does it cost to charge at Universal EV stations?
Pricing varies by location, charger type, and state. We offer both per-kWh pricing and flat-fee options. You can always see the exact price before starting a session in the Universal EV app or on the charger screen. There are no hidden fees.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept:
- Credit / Debit Cards — Visa, Mastercard, American Express
- Universal EV App — Store a card securely for frictionless one-tap payment
How do I get a receipt for my charging session?
Receipts are automatically emailed after every session. You can also view and download receipts in the app under Session History. For billing issues, contact us via our Contact Us page.
Are there membership or subscription plans?
Currently, Universal EV Chargers does not offer a membership or subscription plan. All drivers are charged the same rate displayed at the station. Simply download the free Universal EV app to start sessions, track history, and manage payments conveniently.
I was charged incorrectly. How do I dispute a charge?
Contact our support team within 30 days with your session ID (found in the app or receipt). Reach us via:
- The in-app support chat
- Our online contact form
- Email or phone listed on our Contact Us page
What is a pre-authorization hold?
A temporary pre-authorization hold of $25.00 may appear when you start a session with a credit or debit card. This is not a real charge — it is a standard card verification. Once your session ends, you are only billed for actual energy delivered. The hold clears within 1–5 business days depending on your bank.
Why does my final charge differ from the initial estimate?
Pre-session estimates are based on typical rates — your final bill reflects only the actual kWh delivered. The amount may differ if your battery was closer to full than expected, your vehicle throttled the charge rate, or the session ended early. You are never charged more than the energy actually delivered.
Mobile App
The Universal EV app — your charging companion.
Where can I download the Universal EV app?
The app is free on both platforms:
- Apple App Store — for iPhone and iPad

I can't log into the app. What should I do?
Try these steps:
- Tap Forgot Password on the login screen.
- Ensure the app is updated to the latest version.
- Check your internet connection and try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Uninstall and reinstall the app if the issue persists.
Can I reserve a charger in advance?
Yes! You can reserve a charger ahead of time through the Universal EV app across all charger types. Find your preferred station on the map, select an available time slot, and confirm your reservation.
Is my payment information secure in the app?

Troubleshooting
Resolve common issues quickly.
The charger won't start. What should I do?
- Ensure your vehicle's charge port is open and the connector is firmly seated.
- Check the charger screen for error messages.
- Try ending and restarting the session in the app.
- Try a different payment method if prompted.
- If the charger shows "Offline" or "Fault," try an alternate nearby station.
My charging session stopped unexpectedly. What happened?
Sessions can stop due to a loose cable, your vehicle reaching full charge, a network interruption, or a payment authorization issue. You'll only be billed for energy actually delivered. Check session history in the app, and contact support if you believe you were charged incorrectly.
The charger screen is blank or shows an error code.
A blank screen or error code means the charger needs attention from our maintenance team. Contact our support team and note the charger ID (printed on the unit). We aim to resolve hardware issues within 24–48 hours.
My app shows "No chargers available" even though I'm at the station.
Try enabling location services for the app and refreshing the map, or search by address. If the station still doesn't appear, it may be temporarily offline — try tap-to-pay on the physical terminal or report the issue via in-app support.
How do I report a damaged or vandalized charger?
Contact our 24/7 support team immediately with the charger ID and a description or photo of the damage. If you witness vandalism in progress, contact local authorities first.
Are your charging stations ADA accessible?
Yes. All Universal EV chargers are installed in compliance with ADA accessibility guidelines, including accessible parking dimensions, appropriate reach ranges, and clear floor space for wheelchair users. Contact our support team if you encounter any accessibility barrier.
Another car is parked in a charging spot but not charging. What do I do?
This is known as "ICEing." Check the app for another nearby charger, contact our support team to report the blocked station, or notify property management if the station is on private property. Please do not confront the other driver.
